  1. Fascinating how you visit countries most would not consider directly for their nature. Basically everything you post from such countries is new, at least to me. Posted 9 years ago
    1. Actually this WAS originally a cultural trip with my family ;-) . But we always manage to get out and find some plants and animals to look at. And Cuba is in fact quite biodiverse, so looking back, there are plenty of species I wish I'd looked harder for. I'll have to go back! Posted 9 years ago
      1. How about Papua New Guinea? Ever considered that? Posted 9 years ago
        1. Ha! Are you kidding? I've been dreaming about it for years, and I hope to get there before 2020! Posted 9 years ago
          1. Same here! Having a hard time convincing the g/f. Plus, I hear it is quite expensive. Posted 9 years ago
            1. Yes, the plane tickets alone... But come on, 35 species of BOP!! Posted 9 years ago
              1. The wildlife is convincing, that certainly is not the issue :) Posted 9 years ago
  2. On the topic of Papua :

There is an American guy, Chien Lee who is based in Malaysia that conducts expedition trips to West Papua, which also includes swimming with Whale Sharks. Most of his trips are within Borneo but he has expanded his trips to Papua.

His 16 days Borneo Jungle expeditions is US$3,850. If not mistaken, his Papua trips is around US$5,000.

Self-organized trips are likely to be cheaper if you can find a small Group, like 4-6 persons, to share out the logistic costs like transport and guide fees.

I hope to go to Papua too one day!

Therein, it belongs to the lineage of tholospizan "finches", which also includes the famous Darwin's finches.
