Orange butterfly with white dots, Ankarafantsika, Madagascar I spend 10 minutes chasing this butterfly, but it would not settle down close enough, so all I got is this distant shot. Found near the edge of a lake in Ankarafantsika NP. Notable characteristic is 7 white dots per upper wing, and none on the below wings. I've yet to find a match, gut feeling/guess is the Strabena genus. 1. Thanks once again @wildflower for the identification. I did a pretty long search through this list:
    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_butterflies_of_Madagascar

And recall seeing a "goudoti" (note the single T) on one of the ancient illustrations there. I had the same white dot arrangement but it was a different genus I think.

    1. Both species are on the same plate. The white dots are not so obvious though.

      1. I was looking at a different plate that also featured a goudoti. Confusing :) Posted 9 years ago
  2. I thought this was a Precis but it turned out to be a Junonia. Posted 9 years ago
