The brown barbet is a species of bird in the Megalaimidae family. It is found in Brunei, Kalimantan , Sabah . Its natural habitat is subtropical or tropical moist lowland forests.

This species is split up in this endemic species of Borneo and the sooty barbet of Malaysia. Myanmar, Thailand, and Sumatra .
