Hybrid Mallard I am having a hard time identifying the species of this one. Yet in the process I learned that when you cannot directly match a duck to a major duck specie, it is quite likely a hybrid of two species, 9 times out of 10 the Mallard. The mallard or wild duck is a dabbling duck that breeds throughout the temperate and subtropical Americas, Eurasia, and North Africa, and has been introduced to New Zealand, Australia, Peru, Brazil, Uruguay, Argentina, Chile, Colombia, the Falkland Islands, and South Africa.
