Pejibaye Palm
This tree has thousands of long, sharp thorns covering its entire trunk. Native to Central American countries, it is grown for its miniature coconut fruits, highly appreciated for their taste. Reaching the clusters of tiny fruit is not easy, but the locals have devised a technique that requires scraping off portions of the bark.

''Bactris gasipaes'' is a species of palm native to the tropical forests of South and Central America. It is well spread in these regions where it is often cultivated by smallholders in agroforestry systems or, more rarely, in monoculture. Its English language common names include peach-palm and chontaduro in the Spanish language. It is a long-lived perennial plant which is productive during 50 to 75 years on average.
