I like the determination in the eyes of this Humboldt Penguin as it was about to dive. Too bad something was blocking it partly in the foreground.

The blocking thing in the corner makes the picture even more mysterious, so it isn't that bad at all. Very impressive composition and facial expression. One of my favourites from now on. So you see beauty is indeed in the eyes of the beholder;) Posted 13 years ago

  Thanks for the compliments. I do see how the foreground adds some mystery and rather than brushing it away I dramatized it a bit by a slight vignette blur. Posted 13 years ago

The Humboldt Penguin

The Humboldt Penguin is a South American penguin, that breeds in coastal Peru and Chile. Its nearest relatives are the African Penguin, the Magellanic Penguin and the Galápagos Penguin. The penguin is named after the cold water current it swims in, which is itself named after Alexander von Humboldt, an explorer.
