  1. Thanks. Now I don't feel that guilty anymore for keeping you from posting your photo.
Too bad the lighting was so dim otherwise it would have been a really good photo.

  2. Haha, great shot Gernot, yes what would be the chance of shooting such an exceptional beetle. I like it!
Ps. have you ever tried Adobe Photoshop Lightroom (a bundle that is only good at post processing photos but does it very well and not too hard to learn)? Using Lightroom problems like over- and underlighting are fixable in a few minutes. Thus a good photo tends to be even better/ Just a hint. Good shot, I want to shoot 8bit too:)!

    1. Once you get the hang of it, fixing a photo is more like seconds in LR. Fully agree though that it is amazing and as of the new version, very affordable. Posted 13 years ago
    2. Get down on your knees and search your carpets! :D
I'm using The GIMP for post processing, not even sure whether PS / LR are available for Linux...

The varied carpet beetle is a 3 mm-long beetle belonging to the family Dermestidae. They are a common species, often considered a pest of domestic houses and, particularly, natural history museums, where the larvae may damage natural fibers and can damage carpets, furniture, clothing, and insect collections. "A. verbasci" was also the first insect to be shown to have an annual behavioral rhythm and to date remains a classic example of circannual cycles in animals.
