Orb spider (Araneus circulissparsus) This green orb spider seems quite variable and might have patterns of spots or a stripe on the abdomen. I thought this might be Araneus psittacinus but based on <a href="http://www.findaspider.org.au/find/spiders/111.htm" rel="nofollow">http://www.findaspider.org.au/find/spiders/111.htm</a> it is Araneus circulissparsus<br />

  1. Hi Martin,
    Apparently, this is not Araneus psittacinus and all the IDs in the web are wrong according to Robert Whyte robertwhyterobertwhyte

    There is a detailed discussion about it here
    Araneus psittacinus - male A very small spider, around 5mm in length. Easily overlooked, working its web around the bush at about head height.<br />
<br />
Location is Bandung, West Java, Indonesia. Alongside a stream and paddy fields.<br />
<br />
A lot of work done by WildFlower on the identification of this one. It turns out that this species is probably not even described yet, and so I am removing the species name.<br />

    I asked for Robert's opinion and he says this is another Araneus circulissparsus. There is another one like it here.

    1. Thank you Wildflower.
      I can see why these two might be considered the same.
      I have followed other advice given to me to come to my previous identification.
      However, I will follow Roberts as he knows the group and I do not.

      1. At first sight they look similar. Only when you take a closer look and compare them you can see the difference.
        It is a mess in the ALA gallery for Araneus psittacinus. There are photos of at least 3 different species and none of them is correct. Robert said he would flag an issue but there is no change yet. Your photos are there too. Maybe you can do something about it. I don't know how it works.
