  1. How beautiful, surrounded by our wonderful gum..such a lovely bird and image. I hope one day to see a Major Mitchell when, and if I finally get in to the interior! Posted 5 years ago
    1. Yes it was quite wonderful! Unexpected too: we were camping by a riverbed, and as we were packing up in the morning, it just flew out of nowhere and perched in a tree on the otherside of the creek for a moment, showing off its stunning crest, before taking off, never to be seen again. Major Mitchell's cockatoo, also known as Leadbeater's cockatoo or the pink cockatoo, is a medium-sized cockatoo that inhabits arid and semi-arid inland areas of Australia, though it is seen regularly in other climates, for example, South-East Queensland's subtropical region.
