The painted finch is a common species of estrildid finch found in Australia. It is also known as the painted firetail or the painted firetail finch. It is the only species in the genus ''Emblema''.

It has an estimated global extent of occurrence of 1,000,000 km2. It is found in semi-desert areas, grassland and subtropical dry grassland. The IUCN has classified the species as being of least concern.
