    1. I think also a Chrysoperla carnea aka common green lacewing. Posted 13 years ago, modified 13 years ago
      1. Thanks, let's identify it like that for now. Posted 13 years ago
  2. Hi guys, sorry to intrude, but it does not look like a green wing to me. The wings look white.
Could it be a Chrysopa coloradensis? The wings look more like it, though I cannot be sure about the body colour.
    Just pondering..

  4. Thanks guys for the ID! I checked the other pics available from the Wikipedia and I agree it's most probably Chrysoperla carnea (although it is not green...).
@ Ludo: Thanks! Yes, the shot is very recent - I was patroling my garden for possible macro subjects ;-) This one was really hard:
    1) It didn't sit still - either the animal moved itself, or the wind stirred the blossom it was sitting on!
    2) It really looked like only half real - the light seemed to go through it, there was something fairy-like about it; I really had trouble focussing on it! This one here was the sharpest I could get...

"Chrysoperla carnea", known as the common green lacewing, is an insect in the Chrysopidae family. It is found in many parts of America, Europe and Asia. The adults feed on nectar, pollen and aphid honeydew but the larvae are active predators and feed on aphids and other small insects. It has been used in the biological control of insect pests on crops.
