Territorial Tree Pipit
I know it's far away but even this photo is cropped already. I came across this bird I did not know and had no time to switch lenzes. Based on the patterns on his chest and with the help of a bird guide app I was able to find out that this is a Tree Pipit.
To see this one closer, click the photo to open it fullscreen and use zoom (scroll wheel) and HD mode.

Tree Pipit, "Anthus trivialis", is a small passerine bird which breeds across most of Europe and temperate western and central Asia. It is a long-distance migrant moving in winter to Africa and southern Asia.

By the way, the app is called "Vogels in Nederland", available on iOS, not sure about Android. It has a list of pretty much all bird species in the Netherlands with clear photo, descriptions and even audio. I use it quite a lot. Posted 13 years ago

I find them hard to photograph up close, they're quite shy. Yet only close you see the blue-ish look instead of black. Posted 13 years ago
