Hoverfly/syrphid or flower fly  Sphaeorophoria scripta Wolfheze, Holland (July, 2011).<br />
This is a male, so it complements the previous picture in the species introduction which is of a female. As you can see the abdomens are slightly different. The male has a ball-like rear-end (sexual organ), this is why they are also called plume hoverfly too. They are good pollinizers and prey on aphids so they are a good friend to have in your garden.<br />

The Long hoverfly, "Sphaerophoria scripta" is a European species of hoverfly. They can complete a full life cycle in as little as sixteen days, and a maximum of nine generations may occur in a single year.
