The rufous-necked laughingthrush is a bird species in the Leiothrichidae family. In the proposed rearrangement of the laughingthrushes, it is placed in the genus ''Dryonastes''.

It is found in Bangladesh, Bhutan, China, India, Myanmar, and Nepal. Its natural habitats are subtropical or tropical moist lowland forests and subtropical or tropical moist montane forests.
