Tired bee Saw this one on it's back - it was struggling to get up so I mixed up some sugar water and let it enjoy. A few moments later it was happily walking around, licking my finger and then flew off to a nearby flower. Thought I'd give it a little stroke before leaving it in peace. It probably thought ' Who's this idiot stroking me, I'm trying to collect pollen!'
What can I say, I like bees... :)
1. Thanks :) glad you liked it. Put a smile on my face, probably the most worthwhile thing I've done all week! Posted 9 years ago
2. I can totally relate to this. Recently found one that was exhausted, gave it some water and let it rest. When it somewhat recovered, I put it in a safe place in the sun. I like to kid myself in thinking that it appreciated my help, deep down knowing 100% sure that an insect brain cannot comprehend it. Another thought is that perhaps I could have made things worse. I once read that if you outplace an insect too far from its own spot, it is basically doomed.

It's like talking to pets. They cant understand a word you're saying, but it feels useful still.

3. And to add to this, if you can empathize with an insect like this, you sure have your heart in the right place! Posted 9 years ago
4. Beautiful! I try to feed a little sugar water as well, but I've never tried stroking a bee! Posted 9 years ago
1. I can highly recommend it - especially if the bee is in need of a little help. I've found it best to let them make the first move and crawl on to you rather than a colleague of mine who tried to pick one up (he didn't want it getting run over on the road). It repaid him by stinging him, oops! Posted 9 years ago
1. Do bumble bees sting? Posted 9 years ago
1. I'm not sure to be honest, the one that stung my colleague was a red tailed bumblebee. Posted 9 years ago
