  1. Amazing bird, a proud male without a doubt. Posted 9 years ago
    1. The only one I've ever seen of that species with both intact rackets! Posted 9 years ago
  2. Actually I think this is a Greater Racquet-Tailed Drongo... Lesser has much smaller streaming tail.

Sorry for the low quality, it was perched in deep shadows.

    1. Hmmm I don't think so. The length and width of the streamers can vary quite a bit (http://orientalbirdimages.org/search.php?Bird_Image_ID=91037&Bird_ID=2235&Bird_Family_ID=&Location=).
Plus, the streamers are symmetrical, where they would be curved on only one side in a GRTD. Also, the actual tail is square (forked in Greater), the bill is small, and it has very flat forehead, not showing the shaggy crest that is typical of the Greater.
But, if you want, it can put it up on BirdForum and ask the experts?

      1. That's true... It did occur to me yesterday. Often i just assume anything with a big racket to be the GRTD without checking the tail shape. Or could there be some hybrid between the two? Hmmm... Posted 8 years ago
        1. Interesting thought, there are documented drongo hybrids, though, as far as I know, not between the two racket tail species. By the way, I'm jealous of your photo, I'd love to see a Lesser with those lovely elongated streamers, all the ones i saw at Bukit Fraser had broken streamers. Maybe this time! Posted 8 years ago
  3. By the way, I see you were in Bukit Fraser, such a great place, I'll actually be there in 2 weeks! Posted 8 years ago
    1. That's great! I'm planning to make another trip too, but have not decided on the dates :) Posted 8 years ago
