Red-crowned Amazon closeup
Amazons are such complex species to identify, they all look very similar and even the colors that mix in with their overall green feathers are usually not definitive clues. For example, this is one of many species with a red crown. What gives this one away is its green cheeks (an alias of this specie is the green cheecked amazon), where usually other red fronted Amazons have small color patterns on their cheecks, this one does not.

The Red-crowned Amazon, also known as Red-crowned Parrot, Green-cheeked Amazon, or Mexican Red-headed Parrot, is an endangered Amazon parrot native to northeastern Mexico. The current native wild population of between 1,000 and 2,000 is decreasing. The main threats to its survival are the illegal export of trapped birds from Mexico to the United States and the destruction of habitat.
