This beauty we found near Kerala forest research institute, Vythiri, Wayanad, Kerala.
Heterometrus genus scorpions are all huge scorpions.
Scorpions are one the animals which are less studied in India.

"Heterometrus longimanus", the Black Emperor Scorpion or Asian forest scorpion, is a species of scorpions belonging to the family Scorpionidae.

Based on the elongate chelicerae, this looks like Heterometrus longimanus to me.
I understand H. longimanus to be more common in India but I do not know the range of H. spinnifer, except that it is widespread in Malaysia.
They count bristles on the cephalothorax to identify species and I have the data somewhere on file.

I have certainly seen spinnifer which has stockier nippers. Spinnifer indeed looks blue at some angles and when wet. Posted 6 years ago
