Frustrating Fly This was by far the hardest shot of the entire holiday. 35 shots I took of this little monster and this was the best I could come up with. Every time I got within 3 feet of it, it would fly away. I'd lose it for a moment, checking for shadows on the ground to try and find it again. Then I would see it behind me, 1 foot away - but again, if I moved to try re-position myself, it would fly away! It didn't land anywhere either for me to get a shot of it. Very frustrating, especially when it was taken at 12:50PM in 38 degree Celsius direct sunlight! Bombylius major,Geotagged,Greece,Summer Click/tap to enlarge Country intro

The Large Bee-fly, "Bombylius major", is a bee mimic. The eggs are flicked by the adult female toward the entrance of the underground nests of solitary bees and wasps. After hatching, the larvae find their way into the nests to feed on the grubs.
