Zanzibar Whip Coral Shrimp
Seen in Cabilao, Philippines (2012). Photo by Mark Bockstael (my husband).
Tiny! only grow up to 1.5cm. They have a prominent pointed projection on hump of carapace. Tint of translucent body and broad bands match black coral hosts Cirrhipathes sp (which in spite of the name, are red). These shrimps are most often seen in pairs, and females are twice as large as males. Habitat: Indo Pacific, Australia, New Caledonia, Japan.
