The European herring gull is a large gull, up to 66 cm long. One of the best-known of all gulls along the shores of Western Europe, it was once abundant. It breeds across Northern Europe, Western Europe, Central Europe, Eastern Europe, Scandinavia, and the Baltic states.

How confident are you that this is a Caspian gull?
It shows a yellow eye, which is the exception rather than the norm in Caspians. Furthermore, Caspian gulls are also notable for having a very white head and a long, narrow bill. This bird, with its streaked head and chunky bill, looks more like a herring gull to me. Posted 5 years ago
