''Gomphocarpus fruticosus'' is a species of milkweed native to South Africa. It is also common in New Zealand where it is the main host of the monarch butterfly. The plant's tissues contain sufficient cardenolides that consumption of significant quantities of the plant's leaves, stems, or fruit may lead to death in livestock and humans.
The species is closely related to ''Gomphocarpus physocarpus''.

Nice find, this is the host plant of the monarch butterfly, Danaus plexippus, that probably exists in that area too. Cheers! Posted 9 years ago, modified 9 years ago
A person in Spain told me, that the plant is a so called Spritzgurke. But watching the leaves, this can not be correct. Cheers!:-)
Good to know you, dear Felix. So I will ask for a help for specifications if you don't mind. Posted 9 years ago
