Papilio Troides Helena – The Common Birdwing
Nothing common about this butterfly. This is the only time I have seen this impressive butterfly and managed to snatch a single image before it was lost to me.
I have read that its range is below 800m but this specimen was photographed at 1000m
Location is Bandung, West Java, Indonesia. Alongside a stream and paddy fields.
The Common Birdwing is a butterfly belonging to the family Papilionidae. It is often found in the wildlife trade due to its popularity with butterfly collectors. The butterfly has seventeen subspecies.
