View from the unnamed peak
The Stuarts are the highest mountains in the area and the pretty well the center of a large wilderness area in the middle of Washington. From just about any hike on the periphery that climbs high enough you'll get an amazing panorama of razor edged peaks that sport permanent snow fields. Venture in there and you'll find the Alpine Lakes Wilderness area. Not only is it protected from development, even recreational usage is limited in the most fragile areas. Day hikes are not restricted, but overnight use in the Enchantments area is by permit only and a limited number are given, mostly by lottery.
