  1. hi morpheme, is the species confirmed, shall I create it? Posted 9 years ago
    1. I created it yesterday, but it didn't show up right away... that has happened occasionally in the past, but the new species has generally shown up after a short wait and so far this one hasn't. I'm wondering if I accidentally cancelled it or if my browser crashed rather than submit it? I was hesitant to enter it a second time and goof up the database, but I suppose it will tell me if it's already there? Posted 9 years ago
      1. Strange, never had that issue. What can happen though is that the values you entered do not validate, and that you missed the error message on the form because it is sometimes way down. Not saying that happened, but could be a possibility.

When you submit a species, there should be no delay. It is instantly there, or it didn't get saved at all, there is no background task for which you have to wait. I'll keep an eye on the error log.

And yes, the database will throw a message if a species already exist, and will block you from saving the second one. It uses the name field as a unique key to check for duplicates.
