    1. lol - I'm pretty sure that's only because until rather recently people considered a morel a morel and they were only thought to have color variations rather than being a bunch of different species. I followed a morel key and I hope I've gotten this one correct. The stem is smooth and even, the cap turning dark and it was solitary rather than in a grouping, which all fits. I brought this one home, so I could take to a mushroom ID session, but I get the feeling it's going to be eaten before Monday ;p Posted 9 years ago

''Morchella brunnea'' is a species of fungus in the Morchellaceae family. Described as new to science in 2012, it is known from Oregon, where it fruits under hardwood trees.
