Straight to the point ( personal note to Teuntje..) What&#039;s my leg and what isn&#039;t? This mystical creature of many birthing legends just shows itself to me, even doing impressive balancing tricks. <br />
I, we, owe this bird many a credit due to the birth of our daugher some 5 years ago. Without this bird and without science, what future would there be to behold for us? Ciconia ciconia,Geotagged,The Netherlands,White Stork, birth, legend, ooievaar Click/tap to enlarge

  1. Thanks Sunil for your vote. Yes, it is quite a mystical bird, a bird of life so to say. It brought us, though indirectly and purely theoretically too, lots of joy. Our lovely daughter just celebrated her 7th year on planet Earth. Posted 11 years ago

The White Stork is a large bird in the stork family Ciconiidae. Its plumage is mainly white, with black on its wings. Adults have long red legs and long pointed red beaks, and measure on average 100–115 cm from beak tip to end of tail, with a 155–215 cm wingspan. The two subspecies, which differ slightly in size, breed in Europe, northwestern Africa, southwestern Asia and southern Africa.
