  1. Jeroen, you are correct, the color issue is related to the color space that you use. Not just JungleDragon advise, but common advise on the web: use sRGB. It is the only safe option to use on the web if you want consistency in your intended color. AdobeRGB is thrown away by most image management software (used to resize images) and their support depends also on the browser of the user, as well as the settings of the user, and sometimes even their screen. You can only use sRGB for print or digitally when you have full control over all software and screens, which is not the case on the web.
