    1. lol - it looks like it's definitely a few years old - if you count the more prominent rings it looks like it might be a dozen or so. I didn't actually take note, since I was pretty sure of the ID, but in this forest it's most likely that the host tree was a Douglas fir. The area is lowland old growth, in a somewhat drier part the Olympic National park and the predominant trees in this spot were Dougs and cedars. Posted 9 years ago, modified 9 years ago

''Ganoderma applanatum'' is a bracket fungus with a cosmopolitan distribution. The spore bodies are up to 30–40 centimetres across, hard, woody-textured, and inedible; they are white at first but soon turn dark red-brown.
