Calindoea argentalis - Thyridid moth
A fascinating moth, found hiding in the daytime. Particularly interesting is the evolution of its defence wing pattern combined with its choice of perch.
The moth has to make a decision and choose a landing perch of preference. BUT, does it know why it prefers leaves with holes. I suspect ‘yes’ but we will never know for sure.
Location is Bandung, West Java, Indonesia. Alongside a stream and paddy fields.

You can see from the shadow, that it is aligned with the sun, so probably to reduce heat retention.
