Calindoea argentalis - Thyridid moth A fascinating moth, found hiding in the daytime. Particularly interesting is the evolution of its defence wing pattern combined with its choice of perch.

The moth has to make a decision and choose a landing perch of preference. BUT, does it know why it prefers leaves with holes. I suspect ‘yes’ but we will never know for sure.
1. It looks like it is standing up straight, interesting pose, and great find overall. Posted 9 years ago
    1. Yes it was, I never figured that out.

You can see from the shadow, that it is aligned with the sun, so probably to reduce heat retention.

  3. It was a long time ago, but I still remember the excitement of finding the stunner and being able to grab the shot. Bug photography is a HUGE buzz. Most people just don't 'get it' :) Posted 6 years ago
