Sharp-tailed Grouse My parents and I were out looking at land in Lewistown, MT when my dad noticed these ladies sitting in the grass just outside of a corral. I have never, to my knowledge, seen this kind of bird before. I was also able to hear the warning sound they make as they flew off after being spooked.. It's a very interesting sound to say the least! Sharp-tailed grouse,Tympanuchus phasianellus Click/tap to enlarge Species introCountry intro

The sharp-tailed grouse , is a medium-sized prairie grouse. It is also known as the sharptail, and is known as "fire grouse" or "fire bird" by Native American Indians due to their reliance on brush fires to keep their habitat open.
