A freshly emerged Dainty Swallowtail
Female swallowtails are a regular visitor to my lime tree where they lay one egg or two before flitting by. Eggs or larvae seldom survive doe to the large predator load of neighbouring bugs which dine gleefully on these targets. On occasion I collect a couple to monitor their lifecycle and protect them from predation.

"Papilio anactus" is a medium-sized butterfly from the family Papilionidae, that is endemic to Australia. For protection against predators, this non-poisonous butterfly mimics the poisonous male "Cressida cressida", another swallowtail butterfly that obtains its toxic properties through its host plant, the Dutchman's pipe.
