Apis cerana - Asiatic honey bee
The path was a bright yellow because a fruit laden branch of the date tree had ripened, so there were bees galore. I was very brave, lying on the floor amongst the fallen fruit and hundreds, if not thousands of bees, snapping bees in flight, calmly brushing off the bees when they landed on my face, I was proud of myself, clearly over my wasp/bee aversion of a few years ago.
You can see a little fork at the end of the tongue. I have observed this on other flying bugs.
Location is Bandung, West Java, Indonesia. Alongside a stream and paddy fields.
"Apis cerana", or the Asiatic honey bee, is a species of honey bee found in southern and southeastern Asia, such as China, Pakistan, India, Korea, Japan, Malaysia, Nepal, Bangladesh and Papua New Guinea.
