Trigoniulus corallinus – Millipede
Millipedes are wonderful to watch. The control and co-ordination is so impressive.
A difficult subject to photograph because they are so long, so difficult to get all in focus. They are constantly on the move, adding more problems. They are on the ground, so you have to get down and dirty. They like to keep hidden and so hide in the grass or vegetation. You can move them, but they curl up, then you have to wait forever (a minute or so) for them to feel safe and come back out to play.
Location is Bandung, West Java, Indonesia. Alongside a stream and paddy fields.
''Trigoniulus corallinus'', sometimes called the rusty millipede, is a species of millipede native to the area around Thailand and Myanmar. It is also found in North America, as an introduced species. These millipedes inhabit moist areas, rotten wood and compost. The genome of ''T. corallinus'' was sequenced in 2015, the first time this has been done for a millipede.
