Furrow Orb Weaver on a dry thisle stolk
Furrow Orb Spider - Larinioides cornutus
This spider hanged on a thin web between two dry thisle stalks. I wanted to photograph her, but she felt the movement of air and quickly moved to the stem, where stood still mimicking dry thorns. I touched her gently, but she pretended to be dead. I did it again - no response - as dead. Then I pushed harder and she hung on a thin web and quickly moved up back to the first dry leaf and again stood still. What a perfect camouflage!
About 15 mm long. Spotted at Ognyanovo Dam near Sofia.

"Larinioides cornutus", the furrow spider, furrow orb spider, or foliate spider is an orb-weaver spider with Holarctic distribution.
