I believe most are either diardi or giganteus. However, this one is different again. I am posting 4 images taken at different angles, in the hope that an expert out there can help me find a species name and possibly explain the differences.<br />

  1. Hmm.. the abdominal patterns seem variable for either H giganticus or H diardi.
Might be tricky to get further without a real salty expert.
One common name seems to be 'Heavy jumping spider'? That looks somewhat appropriate.

  2. Mark - I have just spent another several hours on the ID trail. I am now convinced that this is diardi. Reliable source images for giganteus are rare, but I did find an entomological sketch and matching image, and it is very different to diardi; bald carapace, abdomen longitudinal thin stripe with lateral stripes.

I don't have a giganteus in my collection, but an article, with links, needs to be written on the differences.

I was also surprised to discover, there are no Hyllus in Australia, a mistake made by all the reliable sources!
