Aeshna isoceles Aeshna isoceles, fully matured male in flight. My first observation of this year was in 25th march. Surely an early record for this species. The first record was taken a while ago. This male appeared in the marsh in hunting mode, not an easy behavior to attempt an in flight capture. I guess I got some luck, too. Last month I even not had one second of a chance to capture it. This research is a work in progress. I still not found exuviae of this species in this location. almost three years studying it, I still have not figured out the only physical evidence that supports the reproduction hypothesis for this location. something in its biology is still a mystery... "Aeshna isoceles" is a small hawker dragonfly that is found in Europe, mostly around the Mediterranean, and the lowlands of North Africa. Its common name in English is green-eyed hawker. In Britain it is a rare and local species and is known as the Norfolk hawker.
