A new start
This female blackbird is no stranger to me. Last season, she built her nest right inside our shed, the one she is standing on in this photo. The shed has open windows and provides a great shelter. Once every two weeks I would check upon the nest and one day I found three beautiful eggs in it. A few days later though I found the nest on the floor, destroyed and the eggs broken. It probably collapsed under its own weight.
I felt bad for her major setback. This photo brings hope though, with great determination she is here again for another season and another nest. As the whiskey advertorial goes...keep walking.

The Common Blackbird is a species of true thrush. It is also called Eurasian Blackbird, or simply Blackbird, where this does not lead to confusion with a similar-looking local species. It breeds in Europe, Asia, and North Africa, and has been introduced to Australia and New Zealand.
