Cossid moth (Endoxyla secta) About 50mm long (probable approx wingspan 100mm) this is a medium to small member of the genus in Australia with some of the largest and heaviest moths known.<br />
Attracted to lights on the edge of a local national park.<br />
I was surprised to find this as we are experiencing an extended dry period. Larva would have fed in eucalyptus or acacia trees. Also called &#039;goat moths&#039; there are over a hundred species that all look somewhat similar. ''Endoxyla secta'' is a moth in the Cossidae family. It is found in Australia, where it has been recorded from Queensland, South Australia and Western Australia.
