  2. of course i would like, i will never reach the level of knowledge about the animals and plants that you and your team have. for my understanding it is the spotted woodpecker. i can hear his knocking like a drum and his kix kix call from the forrest nearby, and he was the bird of the year 1997. thats all i know.     1. Karin, don't worry. Personally, I don't know that much about wildlife, I'm just a beginner like most of us. But with the help of each other, we can identify the species on the photo.

      And you did! It is indeed a spotted woodpecker. You can now see it in the widget on the right :)

      1. This is the Middle Spotted Woodpecker (Dendrocopos medius) - it has a red crown on the head, while the male Great Spotted Woodpecker only has a red spot :) Posted 12 years ago
