Tube Spittlebug -female (Chaetophyes compacta) A female tube spittle bug about 5 mm long. It had a lime green head and thorax and deep brown tented-up wings and legs. A spittle tube  with an open free end can be seen at the axil of the leaf . This tube is calcareous and made by the spittlebug nymph which remains immersed in the fluid filled tube. Chaetophyes compacta is an Australian species of tube spittlebug. It was described by Walker in 1851.
