Bark gnawing beetle (Leperina decorata)
This is the only one I have found in this family... maybe I should rolll a few more logs over.
About 9mm long. Flat. Patterns of light and dark brown with longitudinal striations on the abdomen. A white flash on each outer margin of the thorax.Three (assymetric?) clubbed segments on antennae?
Exploring a large, weathered (barkless) log in a local nature reserve.
Thanks Michael Geiser for direction.
CSIRO "Species of Lepidopteryx, our most common genus, are clothed with scales or bristles forming a pattern."
Leperina may be synonymous with Lepidopteryx - Stephen Thorpe has Leperina...
A small, flat beetle which lives under bark.
It can be found in south eastern Australia with records in NSW, Victoria and Tasmania
