White-fronted heron (Egretta novaehollandiae)
Body 650mm. Pale blue-grey with long yellow legs and white face. A long thin neck and long narrow grey and black bill.
Local reserve with wetlands.
The plumage still showed signs of the wispy breeding feathers but as there was a drought here they probably didn't produce offspring this season. The only heron recorded breeding in Tasmania.

The White-faced Heron also known as the White-fronted Heron, and incorrectly as the Grey Heron, or Blue Crane, is a common bird throughout most of Australasia, including New Guinea, the islands of Torres Strait, Indonesia, New Zealand, the islands of the Subantarctic, and all but the driest areas of Australia.
