Wedge tailed eagle (Aquila audax)
Sorry about the silhouetted view but this was the first 'Wedgie' I had seen in the wild. It was sitting majestically watching over a kangaroo carcass with it's mate.
A very large and handsome raptor with dark chocolate brown with some lighter markings under wings.
It ranges over most of Australia including Tasmania and southern parts of New Guinea.

The wedge-tailed eagle, sometimes known as the eaglehawk, is the largest bird of prey in Australia, and is also found in southern New Guinea, part of Papua New Guinea and Indonesia. It has long, fairly broad wings, fully feathered legs, and an unmistakable wedge-shaped tail.
