A Convict Treefrog (Hypsiboas calcaratus) showing off its prisoner stripes.
The scientific name of this species is based on the large spines on the heels, which are called "calcars". The English name is based on the light-and-dark stripes on the flanks, which reminded someone of prisoner clothing.

The Convict Treefrog or Troschel's Treefrog, ''Boana calcarata'', is a species of frog in the Halide family found in Bolivia, Brazil, Colombia, Ecuador, French Guiana, Guyana, Peru, Suriname, and Venezuela. Its natural habitats are subtropical or tropical moist lowland forests and rivers. It is threatened by habitat loss.
