Birch coot I had to wait quite a bit for the coot to return to this branch in the water. It had seen me approach, though carefully, and had retreated. In a few minutes of silence it had judges the thread to be over, smoothly sailed the water yet again and I could make a snap. The Eurasian coot, also known as the common coot, is a member of the rail and crake bird family, the Rallidae. It is found in Europe, Asia, Australia and parts of Africa.
