Jewel beetle (Castiarina cruentata)

A highly colorful jewel beetle about 15mm long.
Deep metallic blue including ventral parts and legs but with two and a half pairs of deep orange, broken bands over the wing cases.
Found feeding on Leptosperma scoparium in a local nature reserve.

  1. This beetle is surprisingly brightly colored. I finally found one too. They are not particularly rare so I was surprised that it has eluded my observation for so long. Posted 8 years ago

Castiarina cruentata is an Australian species of jewel beetle. It was described by Kirby in 1818.
