    1. One wonders how such a system would ever evolve - but I have read that at least in Praying mantids, which also display sexual cannibalism, the sex organ of the male frequently breaks off during mating - blocking the female and preventing her for a time from breeding with any other males. After that, the male essentially loses his interest in life and so the female snacks down - but at least the male ensures that the offspring for a while at least will be his. Posted 6 years ago

The redback spider is a species of venomous spider indigenous to Australia. It is a member of the cosmopolitan genus "Latrodectus", the widow spiders. The adult female is easily recognised by her spherical black body with a prominent red stripe on the upper side of her abdomen and an hourglass-shaped red/orange streak on the underside.
