Yellow-tailed Black Cockatoo- Male (Calyptorhynchus funereus)
A large black bird with yellow cheek patches and tail panels. Eyes were pink-rimmed.
I heard loud cracking and ripping sounds and soft cries of a black cockatoo and to my surprise there were two birds, sitting on (one ripping) eucalyptus trees in our back yard. They were nesting on the pine trees in our neighbour's backyard.
