Southern Old Lady moth (Dasypodia selenophora) This one was attracted to strong night lights at a local car yard. The blue Mazda made a nice coloured backdrop. These are quite large moths about 900mm wingspan. Interestingly they can also be found on Macquarie Island... I have no idea how they got there or how they survive those winters. The Southern Old Lady Moth or Southern Old Lady is a moth of the Noctuidae family. It is found in the southern half of Australia, as well as Norfolk Island, New Zealand and Macquarie Island. The wingspan is about 90 mm. The larvae feed on "Acacia" species.
